Invisalign is a state-of-the-art orthodontic system that aligns your teeth using a customized series of comfortable and transparent plastic aligner devices. They fit over your teeth, and each aligner places controlled pressure on your teeth to shift them closer to their optimal position.
Beyond their end result, Invisalign has little in common with braces. Unlike traditional braces, you don’t need to worry about irritating and bulky metal brackets and wires, which can be uncomfortable and hard to adjust to. You also don’t have to cut your favorite foods and candies out of your diet because Invisalign aligners are removable at any time.
Cleaning and caring for your aligners is also easy because you can remove them. Dr. Hong teaches you how to care for them and tells you how often to visit the office, which isn’t nearly as often as you’d need to come in for adjustments to braces.
After careful evaluation and a consultation at Family Tree Dental Care, Dr. Hong decides if Invisalign will be able to help you reach your orthodontic goals. She uses the iTero® digital scanner to see the positions of your teeth and how they’ll move during treatment. The customizable treatment can correct:
Invisalign can also be customized to close gaps and spaces or to address teeth crowding.
Dr. Hong takes digital impressions of your smile, which she uploads to a computer monitor. Using those impressions, she can show you what will happen during your time using the aligners and what to expect with the result. A laboratory uses the digital impressions to manufacture the series of aligners.
You progress through your aligners, changing them every 1-2 weeks according to Dr. Hong’s instructions. She performs check-ups during follow-up visits to make sure your aligners are fitting comfortably and doing their job.
Wear your aligners for at least 20 hours every day. You can remove them to eat or attend special events, but you should sleep with them in to complete your treatment in the projected amount of time. Treatment tends to take 12-18 months.
You must follow Dr. Hong’s instructions before, during, and after treatment. After you finish Invisalign treatment, you transition to a retainer that looks like Invisalign aligners but serves a different function. It helps keep your teeth in their new positions.
If you need restorations like crowns or bridges for any reason, you can get them at Family Tree Dental Care after you complete treatment with Invisalign.
